Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded for developing lithium-ion batteries

It was recently announced that 2019's Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to three scientists: John B. Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino. The award was achieved due to their work in the development of lithium-ion batteries, that are types of batteries that can be recharged, and could seriously support sustainable advancements across the globe.

The significance of this development is the fact that lithium-ion batteries have revolutionised our lives, even though we may not be aware of them. They are in our mobile phones, computers and electric vehicles as well. As concerns about pollution, climate change have taken over recent media, increased pressure on sustainability has come at a good time with the development of these batteries.
